DMACC men's basketball team splits two games in Southeastern Classic

The DMACC men's basketball team came away with a loss and a win in the Southeastern Classic November 26 and 27 at West Burlington.

 

The Bears, ranked twelfth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, dropped a 65-58 decision to  Lincoln Trail College (LTC) on Nov. 26 and rebounded with a 77-72 win over Lake Land Community College (LLCC) on Nov. 27.

 

The split gives DMACC a 7-3 record this season.

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Goanar Biliew of Denison picked up a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds in DMACC's loss to LTC. Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Noah Parcher of LaCrosse, Wis., and CoSO Jadan Graves of Syracuse, N.Y. reached double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.

 

The Bears made 11 of 20 field goal attempts in building a 32-25 advantage at halftime but shot just 40 percent in the second half as they were outscored 40-26 in suffering the loss. For the game, DMACC was 19-of-40 from the field for 48 percent. They made four of 12 three-point attempts and were 16-of-22 from the free throw line.

 

LTC came away with a 36-35 advantage on the boards including 18 offensive rebounds. Graves and freshman Greg Brown of Omaha, Neb., dished out five and four assists respectively and Graves led DMACC in steals with two.

 

Graves had 22 points and Parcher and freshman Allen Udemadu of Lagos, Nigeria, scored 14 and 10 points respectively in DMACC's win over LLCC. The Bears had a 34-24 advantage at halftime and led by as many as 15 points in the second half.

 

DMACC was 19-of-47 from the field in the win. The Bears made seven of 25 three-point attempts and were 32-of-48 from the free throw line.

 

LLCC came away with a 32-31 advantage in rebounding with Biliew and Parcher getting four rebounds apiece to lead DMACC. Brown led the Bears in assists and steals with four and three respectively.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will open Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play Dec. 1 when the Bears play Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) at Fort Dodge. The Tritons are 5-5 this season and have lost their last four games.
