  • CoSO Jadan Graves of Syracuse, N.Y. leads DMACC with 21 points
  • Bears trailed by as many as 10 points twice in the second half
  • KCKCC wins on a basket with four seconds to play in overtime

Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jadan Graves of Syracuse, N.Y. scored 21 points as the DMACC men's basketball team dropped a 75-73 overtime decision to Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) November 16 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

DMACC, ranked fifth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, fell to 5-2 for the season. The Bears trailed 34-27 at halftime and were down by as many as 10 points twice in the second half before gaining a 61-61 tie on a basket by Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Goanar Biliew of Denison with 2 minutes, 10 seconds to play. A pair of free throws by Graves with 1:01 to play gave DMACC a 66-64 advantage but KCKCC tied it with 28 seconds left. Freshman Joe Blair of Biella, Italy, missed a two-pointer with one second left in regulation that would have given the Bears the win.

DMACC never lead in overtime. The Bears tied the game at 70-70 with 1:40 to play and at 73-73 with 18 seconds remaining before Bryce Johnson's two-pointer with four seconds left gave KCKCC the win.

Graves was the only DMACC player to score in double figures. CoSO Noah Parcher of LaCrosse, Wis., finished with nine points and sophomore Michael Hartford of McKinney, Texas, and freshman James Glenn of Altoona had eight points apiece.

The Bears shot 46 percent in the loss, hitting 22 of 48 field goal attempts. They were 10-of-26 from three-point range and 19-of-29 from the free throw line.

KCKCC came away with a 38-26 advantage on the boards with freshman Greg Brown of Omaha, Neb., pulling down seven rebounds to lead DMACC. Parcher and Hartford had four assists apiece, Brown had a pair of steals and CoFR Jean Francois of Coral Springs, Fla., recorded two blocked shots.

The DMACC men's basketball team will play the Central College junior varsity in the Baymont Classic Nov. 20. Game time is 3 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium.
