Francois, Jengmer lead DMACC men's basketball team past Simpson College JV

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Jean Francois of Coral Springs, Fla., and freshman Dei Jengmer of Grand Island, Neb., came off the bench to score 17 points apiece and lead the DMACC men's basketball team to a 93-47 win over the Simpson College junior varsity (SCJV) November 10 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

CoFR Goanar Biliew of Denison, CoFR Preston Thomas of Princeton, Mo., and freshman Joe Blair of Biella, Italy, scored 13, 11 and 10 points respectively as the Bears, ranked sixth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, improved to 3-1 for the season.

 

DMACC used a 23-0 run in the first half to put the game out of reach. The Bears led 11-6 before scoring 23 unanswered points to open up a commanding 34-6 advantage with 7 minutes, 50 seconds remaining in the half. Jengmer and Biliew keyed the run with seven points apiece.

 

DMACC led 51-20 at intermission and pushed its advantage to as many as 49 points late in the second half. The Bears shot 52 percent from the field, draining 38 of 73 field goal attempts. They were 5-of-25 from three-point range and 12-of-13 from the free throw line.

 

DMACC came away with a 50-26 advantage on the boards with Thomas getting a double-double with 11 rebounds. Francois and Jengmer had nine rebounds apiece. Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Noah Parcher of LaCrosse, Wis., dished out a season high 12 assists and Parcher, freshman Greg Brown of Omaha, Neb., freshman James Glenn of Altoona and Jengmer had two steals apiece. Biliew blocked a pair of shots.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will play in the John Wood Classic Nov. 12 and 13 at Quincy, Ill. The Bears will face Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) on Nov. 12 and will face John Wood Community College (JWCC) on Nov. 13. JWCC is ranked 11th in the NJCAA Division II poll.
