DMACC men's basketball team opens season with lopsided win

The DMACC men's basketball team began defense of its 2021 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II national championship with a 99-58 win over the William Penn University junior varsity (WPUJV) Nov. 1 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears, the top-ranked team in the NJCAA Division II preseason poll, made 20 of 30 field goal attempts, including 6-of 13 from three-point range, to open up a 58-18 advantage at halftime and coasted to the win in the second half, leading by as many as 55 points.

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Goanar Biliew of Denison and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Noah Parcher of LaCrosse, Wis., led five Bears in double figures with 15 points apiece. CoFR Preston Thomas of Princeton, Mo., tallied 13 points and freshmen Allen Ademadu of Lagos, Nigeria, and James Glenn of Altoona finished with 12 and 11 points respectively.

 

DMACC shot 59 percent in the win, hitting 36 of 61 field goal attempts. The Bears were 10-of-28 from three-point range and 17-of-26 from the free throw line.

 

Freshman Jo Blair of Biella, Italy, grabbed nine rebounds to lead DMACC to a 54-31 advantage on the boards. Biliew and Udemadu had eight rebounds apiece and freshman Del Jengmer of Grand Island, Neb., finished with seven.

Blair dished out a team-high seven assists with Glenn getting four and Parcher coming away with three. Freshman Greg Brown of Omaha, Neb., led DMACC in steals with three.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will play in the North Central Missouri tournament Nov. 5 and 6 at Trenton, Mo. The Bears will face Spoon River College (SRC) on Nov. 5 and will play North Central Missouri College (NCMC) on Nov. 6. NCMC is ranked 19th in NJCAA Division II. SRC is not ranked by has received votes in the poll.
