DMACC men's basketball team faces ICCC in regional tournament

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team will face Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in the first round of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Division II Men's Basketball Championship.

Game time is 7 p.m. March 3 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

DMACC, ranked fifth in the most recent Division II poll from the NJCAA, is the tournament's No. 2 seed. The Bears are 26-4 overall and tied top-seeded Kirkwood Community College (KCC) for the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) regular season championship at 12-2.

DMACC defeated ICCC twice during the regular season. The Bears were victorious by an 80-54 score Jan. 19 at Fort Dodge and defeated the Tritons 100-69 Feb. 22 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

The DMACC-ICCC winner will face either third-seeded Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) or sixth-seeded Ellsworth Community College (ECC) in the tournament semifinals March 5 at a site to be determined. DMACC split two regular-season games against ILCC, losing 69-59 Jan. 22 at Estherville and winning 81-77 Feb. 19 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears won both regular season matchups against ECC.

The tournament championship game will be played March 7 at a site to be determined.

The Region XI champion will advance to the NJCAA Division II Men's basketball Championship March 17 to 21 at Danville, Ill. The Bears reached the national tournament in 2015, placing fourth.
