DMACC's Tray Buchanan named Division II Third-Team All-American

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball player Tray Buchanan to the NJCAA Division II All-American third team.

 

Buchanan, a sophomore from East Moline, Ill., is the only DMACC men's basketball player to earn All-American honors.

 

Buchanan led the Bears to a 22-10 record this past season, including an 8-6 mark in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). The Bears advanced to the semifinals of the NJCAA Region XI Division II Men's Basketball Championship where their season ended with an 87-77 loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC).

 

Buchanan led the Bears in scoring with a 19.4 average and finished third in scoring in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). He shot 46 percent from the field, hitting 180 of 396 field goal attempts. Buchanan was 77-of-202 from three-point range for 38 percent and made 165 of 202 free throw attempts for 82 percent. He scored 602 points.

 

Buchanan's season also included 131 rebounds, including 114 defensive rebounds, 82 assists, 73 steals and 12 blocked shots.

 

Buchanan capped the season by being named to the NJCAA Region XI All-Region First Team and he was named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 10 to 16.
