DMACC's Deshawn Davidson named ICCAC Athlete of the Week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball player Deshawn Davidson the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II men's basketball for the week of January 28 to February 3.

 

The award is the third for Davidson, a sophomore from Waukegan, Ill., this season and he is the second DMACC men's basketball player to be honored by the ICCAC. Davidson also won the award for the weeks of Nov. 5 to 11 and 12 to 18. DMACC sophomore Tray Buchanan of East Moline, Ill., was honored for the week of Dec. 12 to 16.

 

Davidson helped the Bears to victories over Little Priest Tribal (LPT) and Morton College (MC) during the week. He scored 26 points in a 92-75 win over LPT on Jan. 31 and had 21 points in an 85-75 win over MC on Feb. 3. Against LPT, Davidson was 8-of-17 from the field, including 3-of-7 from three-point range, and made all seven of his free throw attempts. Davidson made 5 of 12 field goal attempts, including 1-of-3 from three-point range, and was 10-of-16 from the free throw line against MC.

 

Davidson ranks fourth in ICCAC scoring, averaging 19.2 points a game. He is shooting 41 percent from the field, having made 124 of 302 field goal attempts. Davidson is 32-of-98 from three-point range for 33 percent, and is 104-of-132 from the free throw line for 79 percent. He has scored 384 points this season. Davidson's season also includes 117 rebounds, 65 assists and 22 steals.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team faces Southwestern Community College (SWCC) in  an ICCAC matchup tonight at Creston. The Bears are 16-6 overall and 4-3 in the ICCAC. SWCC is 13-10 overall and 2-6 in league play.
