Balanced scoring lifts DMACC men's basketball team past CENE

Freshman Zach Lester of Clear Lake score 15 points and led six players in double figures as the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men's basketball team defeated Central (Neb.) Community College (CENE), 94-71, December 14 at Columbus, Neb.

 

Sophomore Devonta Prince of Brooklyn Center, Minn., scored 14 points, sophomore DeShawn Davidson of Waukegan, Ill., had 13 and sophomore Dyllan Robinson of Las Vegas, Neb., sophomore Ray Miller of Davenport and freshman Vinny Tarello of Bolingbrook, Ill., had 12, 11 and 10 points respectively as the Bears improved to 10-3 for the season.

 

DMACC led throughout the game, including a 47-27 advantage at halftime. The Bears shot 49 percent, hitting 36 of 74 field goal attempts. They were 8-of-23 from three-point range and 14-of-21 from the free throw line.

 

Lester pulled down nine rebounds and Prince had eight to lead DMACC to a 56-37 advantage on the boards. Davidson and sophomore Zaire Swaby of Brooklyn, N.Y., had six rebounds apiece and Robinson came away with five.

 

Davidson and sophomore Tray Buchanan of East Moline, Ill., had five assists apiece in the win and Tarello added four assists. Miller topped the Bears in steals with three and Buchanan contributed a pair of blocked shots.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will host Quakerdale Prep Academy Dec. 18 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 6 p.m.
