The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named DMACC's Jaqson Tejada the NJCAA Player of the Week for Division II Baseball (pitching) for the week of May 7 to 14.
Tejada, a sophomore from Marion, is being honored by the NJCAA for the first time this season and he is the only member of the DMACC baseball team to be honored by the organization this season.
Tejada made two appearances on the mound as the Bears went 2-2 in the Region 11 Division II Baseball Tournament May 8 to 11 at Carroll.
Tejada pitched two and a third innings of relief in an 8-0 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) in the first round of the tournament on May 8. He allowed one hit, struck out three batters and walked one.
On May 10, Tejada started and pitched the first seven and a third innings in an 8-0 win over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) in an elimination game. He allowed two hits, struck out six and walked five.
Tejada put together a 4-2 record with a 4.25 earned run average and one save as the Bears went 25-30 this season. He started 10 games and pitched two complete games, including a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over Kirkwood Community College (KCC) April 26 at Cedar Rapids.
Tejada pitched 53 innings, allowing 37 runs, 25 earned runs, on 41 hits. He struck out 53 batters and walked 29. Tejada averaged nine strikeouts per nine innings and allowed 1.32 hits and walks per inning.
