The DMACC baseball team closed out the 2024-25 season at 23-28 overall and 17-16 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) after winning two of three games against Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) May 4 and 5 at the DMACC baseball diamond.
Sophomore Jaqson Tejada of Marion tossed a one-hitter as the Bears took the first of two games on May 3, 6-0. Freshman Brock Moore's RBI single in the bottom of the first gave DMACC a 1-0 win in the second game and ILCC closed out the series with a 14-3 decision on May 4.
Tejada, who threw a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over Kirkwood Community College (KCC) on April 26, came close again as he kept the Lakers hitless until the seventh inning. He pitched all seven innings and improved to 3-2 for the season. Tejada, who retired the first 17 batters he faced before issuing a base on balls with two gone in the top of the sixth, struck out eight batters and walked three.
Freshman Archer Ogbourne of Carlisle paced DMACC at the plate with two hits, including a triple, and freshman Adam Leininger of Fargo, N.D., drove in two DMACC runs. The Bears took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, made it a 5-0 game with a pair of runs in the fourth and closed it out with a run in the sixth.
Ogbourne led off the bottom of the first with a base hit, stole second, moved to third on a base hit by sophomore Jackson Manning of Keosauqua and scored on Moore's base hit in DMACC's 1-0 win in the second game. The Bears had six hits in the win, all singles.
Sophomore Konner Entz of West Fargo, N.D., pitched the first four innings and improved to 5-1 with the win. He allowed three hits, struck out four and walked one. Sophomore Ty Thomson of Council Bluffs went one inning and struck out two of the three batters he faced and sophomore Bobby Uthe of Ames allowed two hits and struck out one in one inning on the mound. Freshman Andrew Theiss of Clear Lake pitched two and two-thirds innings allowing two hits with one walk and one strikeout and freshman Nick Cox of Polk City earned his fourth save of the season in a third of an inning. He struck out the only batter he faced.
ILCC scored a run in the first, six in the third, one in the fourth and three each in the seventh and eighth innings in winning the final game of the series. DMACC tallied a pair of runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Freshmen Blake Crancer of Normal, Ill., Trey Franck of Marion and Cole Baumgart of Clarinda paced DMACC's seven-hit attack with two hits apiece including a double by Baumgart. Moore also doubled in the game and drove in two DMACC runs.
Freshman Jordan Leininger of Fargo, N.D., pitched the first two innings and fell to 1-2 with the loss. He allowed one run on two hits, struck out three and walked one. Freshman Eli Christensen of Ankeny pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing five runs on three hits with one strikeout and freshman Carter Ver Meer of Inwood gave up two runs on three hits with a strikeout and three walks in two-thirds of an inning. Freshman Carter Hines worked two and two-thirds of an inning, giving up one hit and striking out two batters and freshman Rhett Pleggenkuhle of Van Meter went two-thirds of an inning and gave up three runs on three hits. Freshman Gage Miller of Mandan, N.D., allowed one hit in a third of an inning and freshman Braxton Hoard of West Fargo, N.D., gave up three runs on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk in one inning of work.
The DMACC baseball team will be the No. 5 seed in the 2025 Region 11 Division II Baseball Championship May 8 to 11 at Carroll. The Bears will open tournament play against Ellsworth Community College (ECC) May 8 at 1 p.m. ECC, the No. 4 seed, won two of three games against DMACC during the regular season.
The double-elimination tournament continues through May 11 when the championship game is scheduled to be played at noon. A second championship game, if necessary, would be played immediately following the first championship game.
The Region 11 champion will advance to the North Plains District Championship May 16 and 17 at a site to be determined.
