DMACC baseball team drops 11-5 decision to Ellsworth CC

 

The DMACC baseball team fell to 15-23 overall and 9-11 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) after dropping an 11-5 decision to Ellsworth Community College (ECC) April 16 at Iowa Falls.

 

DMACC had a 2-1 lead after the first inning and led 3-2 after two innings. ECC tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the bottom of the third and the contest was tied 4-4 after both teams scored a run in the fifth inning. DMACC went up 5-4 with a run in the top of the seventh but ECC answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning and four in the bottom of the eighth to get the win.

 

Sophomores Jackson Manning of Keosauqua and Kaden Frommelt accounted for six of DMACC's nine hits. Manning had three singles and a home run and drove in three runs and Frommelt hit a pair of doubles.

 

Sophomore Carter Woollums of Johnston pitched the first six innings for DMACC, allowing four runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts and a walk. Freshman Andrew Theiss of Clear Lake went two-thirds of an inning and suffered the loss. He allowed two runs, struck out one and walked three. Freshman Gage Miller of Mandan, N.D., allowed one run and walked one batter but was not credited with any innings pitched and freshman Jordan Leininger of Fargo, N.D., went one inning on the mound, allowing three runs on one hit with one strikeout. Freshman Nick Cox of Polk City pitched a third of an inning and allowed one run on one hit.

 

The DMACC baseball team will face Southwestern Community College (SWCC) in a three-game series April 18 and 19 at the DMACC baseball diamond. SWCC, a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I program, is 9-29 overall and 5-15 in the ICCAC. The two teams will play a single game on April 18 and a doubleheader on April 19.
