The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Ty Thomson the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Baseball (pitching) for the week of April 7 to 13.
Thomson, a sophomore from Council Bluffs, is being honored for the second consecutive week and he is one of four members of the DMACC baseball team to be honored by the conference this season.
Konner Entz, a sophomore from West Fargo, N.D., was honored for his pitching the week of March 24 to 30 and Jaqson Tejada, a sophomore from Marion, was honored for his pitching the week of Jan. 27 to Feb. 2. Archer Ogbourne, a freshman from Carlise, was honored for his hitting the week of Jan. 27 to Feb. 2.
Thomson pitched the Bears to an 8-0 win over Southeastern Community College (SECC), April 10 at the DMACC baseball diamond. The Blackhawks were ranked fourth in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) at the time.
Thomson started and pitched six of the nine innings, getting his third win of the season. He allowed three hits, struck out eight and walked one. Freshman Anderw Theiss of Clear Lake and Nick Cox of Polk City preserved the win for Thomson by keeping the Blackhawks off the scoreboard over the final three innings.
Thomson is 3-3 with a 2.98 earned run average this season. He has pitched 42 and a third innings, allowing 17 runs, 14 earned runs, on 22 hits. Thomson has struck out 75 batters and walked 20. He is averaging 15.94 strikeouts per nine innings and is averaging 1.88 hits and walks per inning.
