DMACC baseball team drops three games to Iowa Western
  • IWCC wins a doubleheader on March 28, 10-6 and 9-4
  • Reivers take a single game on March 31, 8-5
  • DMACC faces NECC in a doubleheader on April 2

 

The DMACC baseball team fell to 10-17 overall and 4-5 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) after dropping three games to Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) March 28 and 31 at Council Bluffs.

 

IWCC took a doubleheader on March 28, 10-6 and 9-4, and won a single game on March 31, 8-5.

 

The Reivers used a nine-run rally in the bottom of the fourth to come away with the win in the opener on March 28. They led 1-0 after three innings and trailed the Bears 3-1 after DMACC rallied for three runs in the top of the fourth. DMACC scored its other three runs in the top of the seventh.

 

Freshman Adam Leininger of Fargo, N.D., paced DMACC at the plate with three hits, including a double. Freshman Blake Crancer of Normal, Ill., had a double and drove in two DMACC runs and freshman Cole Baumgart of Clarinda added a double.

 

Sophomore Ty Thompson of Council Bluffs fell to 2-2 with the loss. He pitched three and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Freshman Rhett Pleggenkuhle of Van Meter threw a third of an inning, allowing two runs on four hits with one strikeout and freshman Eli Christensen of Ankeny pitched two innings and walked one batter.

 

IWCC scored five runs in the first, two in the second and one each in the seventh and eighth innings to get the win in the second game,

 

DMACC, which scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings and two runs in the eighth, got two hits and two RBIs from freshman Martin Smith of Boone. Smith, freshman Archer Ogbourne of Carlise, sophomores Jackson Manning of Keosauqua and Matt Rivers of Colfax and freshman Brock Moore of Urbandale each doubled in the game and Rivers joined Smith with two RBIs.

 

Sophomore Jaqson Tejada of Marion pitched the first inning and two-thirds and fell to 0-2 with the loss. He allowed seven runs on six hits, struck out two and walked one. Freshman Andrew Theiss of Clear Lake went four and a third innings, allowing three hits with two strikeouts and three walks and sophomore Bobby Uthe of Ames gave up two runs on two hits with one strikeout in one inning on the mound.

 

IWCC took a 3-0 lead in the second inning of its win on March 31 but fell behind 4-3 after DMACC scored two runs in the fourth and two in the fifth. The Reivers responded with four runs in the seventh and added an insurance run in the eighth with DMACC scoring its other run in the top of the ninth.

 

Manning and Crancer paced the Bears at the plate with two hits apiece and Crancer, Smith and Rivers had one double each. Smith, Rivers, sophomore Colin Driscoll of Waukee and freshman Carter Bryan of Johnston drove in one run apiece.

 

Sophomore Konner Entz of West Fargo, N.D. pitched the first five innings for the Bears, allowing three runs on five hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Freshman Jordan Leininger of Fargo, N.D., threw an inning and two-thirds and allowed one run with one strikeout and one walk. Freshman Gage Miller of Mandan, N.D., fell to 0-4 with the loss. He worked just a third of an inning, allowing four runs on four hits and walking one batter and freshman Nick Cox of Polk City recorded on strikeout and one walk in one inning on the mound.

 

The DMACC baseball team will face Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) in a doubleheader April 2 at the DMACC baseball diamond. NECC is 17-14 overall and 3-5 in the ICCAC. The Hawks' losses include a 10-0 setback to DMACC March 18 at Norfolk, Neb.
