DMACC baseball team takes 11-1 decision from Iowa Central

 

The DMACC baseball team avoided a 3-0 sweep by Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) with an 11-1 decision against the Tritons March 24 at the DMACC baseball diamond.

 

The Bears, who improved to 8-14 overall and 2-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with the win, lost both games of a doubleheader to ICCC on March 22 and salvaged the win behind two hits and three RBIs apiece from sophomores Jackson Manning of Keosauqua and Kaden Frommelt of Marion.

 

ICCC, which fell to 18-5 and 2-1, took a 1-0 lead in the first. DMACC rallied for a 2-1 lead with two runs in the bottom of the third and put the game away with two runs in the fifth, five in the sixth and two in the eighth.

 

The Bears collected 13 hits off five ICCC pitchers, 11 singles to go with home runs from Manning and Frommelt. Manning, Frommelt, freshmen Archer Ogbourne of Carlisle and sophomore Carter Bryan of Johnston led the way with two hits apiece.

 

Manning and Frommelt drove in three runs apiece. Manning hit a sacrifice fly in the third and blasted a two-run home run in the sixth. Frommelt had an RBI single in the third and belted a two-run homer in the eighth. Bryan came away with two RBIs on a single in the fifth.

 

Sophomore Konner Entz of West Fargo, N.D., got the win on a five-hitter. He threw six innings, allowing one run, struck out 10 and walked one. Freshman Jordan Leininger of Fargo, N.D., threw one inning, striking out one batter and walking two and freshman Nick Cox of Polk City struck out one of four batters he faced in one inning on the mound.

 

The DMACC baseball team will face Marshalltown Community College (MCC) in a doubleheader March 26 at the DMACC baseball team. The Tigers are 7-13 overall and 0-4 in the ICCAC.
