Sophomore Carter Woollums of Johnston tossed a two-hitter and freshman Blake Crancer of Normal, Ill., and sophomore Colin Driscoll of Waukee belted home runs as the DMACC baseball team began play in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with a 10-0 win over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) March 18 at Norfolk, Neb.
In addition to allowing just two hits, Woollums struck out three batters and walked one. He faced just 25 batters in the seven inning game, four over the minimum, in improving to 4-2 for the season.
DMACC, which ran its overall record to 7-12, took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second and made it a 2-0 game with a run in the top of the third. The Bears pushed their advantage to 5-0 with three runs in the third and closed out the win with five runs in the fifth.
Crancer and freshman Archer Ogbourne of Carlisle led the Bears at the plate with three hits apiece and Crancer paced the Bears in runs batted in with three. Driscoll had a single to go with his home run and drove in two runs, as did sophomore Jackson Manning of Keosauqua. DMACC got two hits from sophomore Kaden Frommelt of Marion, including a double, and freshman Brady Walton of Waukee also doubled.
The DMACC baseball team will face Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in a three-game series March 22 and 23 at the DMACC baseball diamond. The two teams will play a doubleheader on March 22 and a single game on March 23. ICCC is 16-4 overall and will begin ICCAC play in the series against DMACC. The Tritons are ranked 22nd in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
