DMACC baseball team splits another doubleheader
  • Sophomore Colin Driscoll homers in 4-0 win over Highland CC
  • Sophomore Carter Woollums gets the win behind a three-hitter
  • Hutchinson CC tops the Bears 4-3 in the second game

Splitting doubleheaders has become the norm for the DMACC baseball team thus far in 2025. The Bears have played five doubleheaders and have split each one, the most recent being a 4-0 win over Highland (Kan.) Community College (HKCC) and a 4-3 loss to Hutchinson Community College (HCC) Feb. 24 at Hutchinson, Kan.

The result is a 5-6 record for DMACC, which lost a single game to Dallas College Eastfield on Feb. 17. The loss came after the two teams split a doubleheader on Feb. 16.

Sophomore Colin Driscoll of Waukee provided the bulk of the offense with a two-run home run and sophomore Carter Woollums of Johnston scattered three hits and came away with the win in DMACC's victory against HKCC.

The Bears got all the runs they really needed when Driscoll walked and moved around on a wild pitch, a throwing error and a sacrifice fly by freshman Archer Ogbourne of Carlisle for a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Driscoll belted his home run in the fifth for a 3-0 lead and sophomore Jackson Manning of Keosauqua closed out the win when he reached on an error and scored on an infield grounder by sophomore Kaden Frommelt of Marion in the sixth inning.

Woollums went the distance and improved to 2-1 with the win. In addition to allowing three hits, he struck out five and walked two.

HCC broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the bottom of the eighth to come away with the win in the second game. DMACC took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second and HCC drew even with a run in the bottom of the inning and then moved ahead with a run in the bottom of the third. DMACC tied the contest at 3-3 on a solo home run by Manning in the top of the fifth.

Driscoll walked and scored the first of two DMACC runs in the second, coming home on a double by freshman Trey Franck of Marion. Franck later scored the second run of the inning on a base hit by freshman Blake Crancer of Normal, Ill.

Driscoll and Crancer paced the Bears' eight-hit attack with two hits apiece, including a pair of doubles by Driscoll.

Sophomore Konner Entz of West Fargo, N.D., pitched the first three innings for DMACC, allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Freshman Zack Turpin of Waukee went two-thirds of an inning, allowing one run, walking one batter and striking out one. Freshman Jordan Leininger of Fargo, N.D., also went two-thirds of an inning, striking out one batter and walking one. Sophomore Ty Thompson of Council Bluffs pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and striking out three batters. Freshman Gage Miller of Mandan, N.D., fell to 0-2 with the loss. He pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing one run on one hit with one strikeout and one walk.

DMACC and HCC will play a doubleheader today at Hutchinson, Kan.
