A six-game road trip to Texas for the DMACC baseball team began with a split of four games February 14 and 15.
The Bears divided a pair of games against Dallas College North Lake (DCNL) on Feb. 14 at Irving, Texas, and came away with a split in two games against Dallas College Eastfield (DCE) Feb. 15 at Mesquite, Texas. The trip will conclude with a doubleheader against DCE today.
DMACC overcame a 3-0 deficit with three runs in the top of the fifth and two in the top of the sixth for a 5-3 win against DCNF in the first game on Feb. 14. Freshman Archer Ogbourne of Carlisle and sophomore Jackson Manning of Keosauqua sparked the Bears' eight-hit attack with two hits apiece, including a double by Ogbourne, who also had two runs batted in, Redshirt sophomore Matt Rivers of Colfax also doubled in the game and Manning, freshman Blake Crancer of Normal, Ill., and freshman Adam Leininger of Fargo, N.D., drove in one run apiece.
Sophomore Carter Woollums of Johnston pitched all seven innings and got the win. He allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out one batter.
DMACC had a 3-0 lead after five innings in the second game but DCNL scored twice in the fifth and four times in the sixth to get the win, 6-4.
Ogbourne, Manning, sophomore Kaden Frommelt of Marion and freshman Brock Moore of Urbandale accounted for eight of DMACC's 12 hits with two hits apiece, including doubles by Ogbourne and Frommelt. Frommelt, Manning and sophomore Colin Driscoll of Waukee drove in one run apiece.
Sophomore Konner Entz of West Fargo, N.D., pitched the first four and two-thirds innings for the Bears, allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts and four walks. Sophomore Bobby Uthe of Ames went a third of an inning and surrendered three runs on two hits with a walk and a strikeout and came away with the loss. Redshirt freshman Nick Cox of Polk City pitched one inning and gave up a run on two hits with one strikeout.
DMACC scored three runs in the third and one in the fifth to win the opener on Feb. 15, 4-3. DCE tallied one run in the fifth and two in the sixth.
The Bears were limited to just three hits, a single by Ogbourne and doubles by Manning and freshman Jake Espeland of Des Moines. Ogbourne drove in two DMACC runs and Leininger added an RBI.
Sophomore Ty Thompson of Council Bluffs pitched the first five innings and improved to 2-0 with the win, He allowed one run on two hits, struck out 12 and walked four. Sophomore Jaqson Tejada of Marion threw one inning, allowing two runs on two hits with one walk and freshman Gage Miller of Mandan, N.D., worked one inning and earned his first save of the season, He walked one batter.
DCE scored twice in the first inning, once in the second inning, four times in the third, once in the fourth and twice in the sixth to come away with a 10-1 win in the second game. DMACC tallied its lone run in the top of the fifth.
The Bears were again limited to just three hits, getting singles from Moore and sophomore Carter Bryan of Johnston and a double by sophomore Trey Franck of Marion. Freshman Cole Baumgart of Clarinda drove in the lone DMACC run.
Freshman Andrew Theiss of Clear Lake pitched the first two and a third innings for DMACC, allowing five runs on four hits and walking four batters. Freshman Jordan Leininger of Fargo, N.D., pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up two runs on two hits with one strikeout and one walk. Freshman Zack Turpin of Waukee went two innings and allowed one hit, recorded one strikeout and walked one batter and freshman Eli Christensen of Ankeny gave up two runs on three hits in one inning on the mound.
