Kaufman honored by both the NJCAA and ICCAC
  • Kaufman hit .500 in helping the Bears to the Region 11 championship
  • Kaufman's hits included four home runs and two doubles
  • Kaufman drove in 11 runs and scored seven runs in four games

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named DMACC's Camden Kaufman the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Baseball for the week of May 6 to 12.

 

Kaufman, a sophomore from Waukee, is being recognized for the fourth time this season and he is one of six members of the DMACC baseball team to be honored by the conference this season. He was also honored the week of March 25 to 31, the week of March 4 to 10 and the week of Jan. 29 to Feb. 4.

 

Other members of the DMACC baseball team to be honored by the ICCAC include sophomore Jaylen Ziegler of Urbandale, sophomore Dillon Kuehl of Urbandale, freshman Brennan Haman of West Fargo, N.D., sophomore Chance Key of Waverly and sophomore Eli Lehrman of Anamosa.

 

Ziegler was recognized for his hitting the week of April 22 to 28 and Kuehl was recognized for his hitting the week of Feb. 26 to March 3. Haman, Key and Lehrman were recognized for their pitching. Haman was honored the week of May 6 to 12 and the week of April 29 to May 5. Key was honored the week of April 8 to 14 and Lehrman was honored the week of Jan. 29 to Feb. 4.

 

Kaufman batted .500 in helping the DMACC baseball team to its first Region 11 championship since 2012. The tournament was held May 9 to 12 at Fort Dodge and the Bears won the championship behind four consecutive victories, beating Northeast (Neb.) Community College, Kirkwood Community College (KCC) and defeating Southeastern Community College (SECC) twice.

 

Kaufman was 2-for-5 with a home run, a run batted in and three runs scored in a 10-2 win over NECC on May 9. He was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, three RBIs and a run scored in a 17-3 win over top-seeded KCC on May 10 and was 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored in a 9-6 win over second-seeded SECC on May 11. Kaufman helped the Bears to a 19-12 win over SECC in the championship game on May 12, going 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, four RBIs and a run scored in a 19-12 win.

 

Kaufman leads DMACC in hitting, home runs and RBIs. He is batting .364 with a .440 on-base percentage and a .703 slugging percentage. Kaufman has 71 hits in 195 at-bats and his hits include 22 doubles, a triple and 14 home runs. He has driven in 68 runs and scored 52 runs.

 

The DMACC baseball team is 34-23 this season, including an 18-15 record in the ICCAC. The Bears will be playing Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) May 17 and 18 in the North Plains District Championship at Rosemount, Minn. The winner of the best 2-of-3 tournament will advance to the 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Baseball World Series May 25 to June 1 at Enid, Okla.
