The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has released the 2024 ICCAC Division II All-Region Baseball Team and six members of the DMACC baseball team have been honored.
Sophomore Chance Key of Waverly was named to the first team and was also named the ICCAC Pitcher of the Year. Freshman Brennan Haman of West Fargo, N.D., earned second-team honors as a pitcher and sophomores Dillon Kuehl of Urbandale and Camden Kaufman of Waukee and freshmen Carter Woollums and Sam Hesselmann, both of Johnston, earned honorable mention recognition. Kuehl was recognized as an outfielder, Kaufman as an infielder, Woollums as a starting pitcher and Hesselmann as an infielder.
Key is 8-0 with an earned run average of 1.76 and five complete games this season. He has a 5-0 record and a 1.43 ERA in conference play. Key has pitched 71 and two-thirds innings, allowing 25 runs, 14 earned runs, on 58 hits with 74 strikeouts and 17 walks. Key is averaging 9.29 strikeouts per nine innings. In conference play Key went 44 innings, allowing 12 runs, seven earned runs, on 37 hits. He struck out 40 batters, walked seven, averaged 8.18 strikeouts per nine innings and pitched five complete games.
Haman has a 5-0 record with four saves and an 0.78 ERA overall. He is 2-0 with one save and an 0.00 ERA in ICCAC play. Haman has pitched 23 innings, allowing six runs, two earned runs, on 15 hits with 37 strikeouts and 13 walks. He is averaging 14.48 strikeouts per nine innings. In ICCAC play, Haman pitched nine innings, allowing one unearned run on six hits with 15 strikeouts and five walks. He averaged 15 strikeouts per nine innings.
Kuehl is batting .315 with a .511 on-base percentage and a .580 slugging percentage. He has 51 hits in 162 at-bats and his hits include 12 doubles, two triples and nine home runs. He has driven in 42 runs and scored 62 runs.
Kaufman is hitting .364 with a .440 on-base percentage and a .703 slugging percentage. He has 71 hits in 192-at bats and his hits include 22 doubles, one triple and a team-leading 14 home runs. He also leads the Bears in runs batted in with 68 and has scored 52 runs. Kaufman has stolen 17 bases in 22 attempts.
Woollums is 4-3 this season with four complete games. He has pitched 66 and two-thirds innings, allowing 41 runs, 36 earned runs, on 75 hits. Woollums has struck out 45 batters, walked 15 and is averaging 6.07 strikeouts per nine innings.
Hesselmann has a .305 batting average with a .424 on-base percentage and a .410 slugging percentage. He has 32 hits in 105 at-bats and his hits include eight doubles and a home run. Hesselmann has driven in 27 runs and scored 19 runs.
The DMACC baseball team is 34-23 this season and won its first Division II Region 11 Baseball Championship since 2012 last weekend behind a 19-12 win over Southeastern Community College (SECC) in the championship game on May 12. The Bears will face Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) the North Plains District Baseball Championship May 17 and 18 at Rosemount, Minn. The winner of the best 2-of-3 series will advance to the 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Baseball World Series May 25 to June 1 at Enid, Okla. DMACC has not appeared in the national tournament since 2012.
