DMACC baseball team drops 13-3 decision to Indian Hills CC

 

Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) pulled away from a 3-3 tie with five runs in the bottom of the fifth and five in the bottom of the seventh en route to a 13-3 win over the DMACC baseball team April 8 at Centerville.

 

The loss was the 16th of the season against 18 wins for the Bears, who fell to 6-8 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

IHCC led 3-0 after the first inning and DMACC drew even at 3-3 with a run in the top of the second and three runs in the top of the fifth.

 

The Bears were limited to three hits in the loss, getting a single by sophomore Camden Kaufman of Waukee and a pair of singles from freshman Jackson Manning of Keosauqua. Sophomores Cory Bantam of Woodbine, Noah Thein of Dewitt and Tomas Lee of Minnetonka, Minn., drove in runs for the Bears. Bantam drove in Kaufman with an infield grounder in the second and Noah got a run home in the fifth when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. A bases loaded walk to Lee plated another run in the inning.

 

The Bears used nine pitchers in the loss. Sophomore Alex Berends of Story City started and went two-thirds of an inning. He allowed three runs on two hits and walked two batters. Sophomore Max Martin of Franklin, Wis., had the longest stint on the mound, going two and a third innings and allowing one hit with one strikeout and two walks. Sophomore Jacob Sjuts of Humphrey, Neb., threw one inning and gave up two hits and sophomore Kaleb Gengler of Sioux City went a third of an inning, surrendering one run with one strikeout and one walk. He took the loss to fall to 1-2 for the season.

 

Freshman Bobby Uthe of Ames threw a third of an inning and allowed two runs with one strikeout and two walks and freshman Konner Entz of West Fargo, N.D., allowed two runs on one hit with one walk in a third of an inning. Sophomore Eli Lehrman of Anamosa went one inning, giving up two runs on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk and sophomore Jai Jensen of Clinton gave up three runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning. Sophomore Thomas King of West Des Moines gave up a hit to the only batter he faced.

 

The DMACC baseball team will play Marshalltown Community College (MCC) in a single game April 10 at the DMACC baseball team. MCC is 9-22 overall and 1-22 in the ICCAC
