DMACC baseball divides doubleheader with Dakota County

  • The two teams will play a doubleheader today at the DMACC baseball diamond

 

The DMACC baseball team finds itself at 10-8 after splitting a doubleheader against Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) March 10 at the DMACC baseball diamond.

 

The Bears won the opener, 7-5, behind three hits and three runs batted in from sophomore Dillon Kuehl of Urbandale. Sophomore Kannon Coakley of Maquoketa drove in a pair of runs in an 8-5 loss in the second game.

 

DMACC took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener but trailed 2-1 after DCTC tallied a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. The Bears regained the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and opened up a 7-2 advantage with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. DCTC made it a 7-5 game with three runs in the top of the seventh.

 

Sophomore Dillon Kuehl of Urbandale paced DMACC at the plate with a double and two singles and three runs batted in. Sophomore Cory Bantam of Woodbine had two hits including a home run and drove in two runs. The Bears also got a triple from sophomore Colin Driscoll of Waukee.

 

Sophomore Ty Madison of Omaha, Neb., pitched the first five and two-thirds innings and earned his fourth win of the season against one loss. He allowed two runs on four hits and struck out eight. Freshman Konner Entz of West Fargo, N.D., pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up two runs. He struck out one batter and walked one. Sophomore Alex Berends of Story City also worked two-thirds of an inning and gave up one run on one hit. He struck out one batter.

 

DMACC had a 3-0 lead after three innings and led 4-1 after four innings before DCTC tallied seven runs in the top of the fifth to come away with the win in the second game.

 

Sophomores Tomas Lee of Minnetonka, Minn., Camden Kaufman of Waukee and Noah Thein of Dewitt led DMACC at the plate had two hits apiece, including doubles by Lee and Thein. Sophomore Kannon Coakley topped the Bears in RBIs with two.

 

Sophomore J.C. Dermody of Council Bluffs started on the mound for DMACC and went just one inning, striking out three batters and walking four. Sophomore Jake Porter of Winterset went three innings, allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts and a walk and sophomore Jacob Sjuts of Humphrey, Neb., surrendered five runs on three hits and was not credited with any innings pitched. He suffered the loss to fall to 0-1 for the season. Freshman Bobby Uthe of Ames gave up two runs on two hits and struck out two batters in one inning on the mound and sophomore Eli Lehrman of Anamosa had one strikeout in two innings of work.
