DMACC baseball team splits doubleheader against Southeastern
  • DMACC limited to four hits in 4-0 loss in the first game

The DMACC baseball team sits at 23-22 overall and 12-13 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) after splitting a doubleheader against Southeastern Community College (SECC) April 26 at West Burlington.

 

The Bears managed just four hits in losing the opener, 4-0, and sophomore Gage Franck of Marion and freshman Mitchell Cummins of Chanhassen, Minn., homered in an 11-0 win in the second game.

 

Cummings had two singles and freshmen Dillon Kuehl of Urbandale and Noah Thein of DeWitt had one single apiece in DMACC's loss in the first game. SECC broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth in getting the win.

 

Freshman Ty Madison of Omaha, Neb., went the distance and fell to 3-2 with the loss. He allowed four runs on four hits.

 

Franck and Cummins each homered and singled in DMACC's win in the second game with Cummins driving in four runs and Franck driving in three. The Bears did all of their scoring in three innings, getting five runs in the second, three in the fifth and three in the sixth.

 

Sophomore Reed Stallman of Alburnett had three hits for DMACC and freshmen Jaylen Ziegler of Urbandale and Kannon Coakley of Maquoketa getting two hits apiece.

 

Freshman Jacob Sjuts of Humphrey, Neb., pitched the first four innings and got the win in his first decision of the season. He allowed three hits, struck out one and walked one. Sophomore Drew Scherbenske of Rapid City, S.D., threw an inning and a third, recording one walk and one strikeout and freshman Jai Jensen of Clinton pitched an inning and two-thirds. He gave up one hit, struck out two and walked one.

 

The DMACC baseball team will face Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in a three-game series April 29 and 30 at the DMACC baseball diamond. The two teams will play a doubleheader on April 29 and a single game on April 30. ILCC is 3-36 overall and 1-24 in the ICCAC.
