The DMACC baseball team improved to 15-11 overall and 4-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) by sweeping a doubleheader from Marshalltown Community College (MCC) March 28 at Marshalltown.

The Bears took the opener, 12-1, and won the second game by a 16-1 score.

Freshman Dillon Kuehl of Urbandale had a triple and a home run and drove in four runs for DMACC in the opener. The Bears got the win behind three runs in the first and nine in the fourth. The game was called because of the 10-run mercy rule after MCC batted in the bottom half of the fifth.

Freshman Jaylen Ziegler of Urbandale topped DMACC in hitting with a triple and two singles. Sophomore Reed Stallman of Alburnett had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs and sophomore Brodie Kresser of Jesup doubled and also drove in two runs. Freshman Noah Thein of DeWitt also homered for the Bears.

Freshman Vinny Mauro of Norwalk threw all five innings and improved to 2-0 with the win. He allowed one run on six hits, struck out five and walked two.

Cummins, Kresser and Ziegler had three hits apiece in DMACC's win in the second game. The Bears took a 6-0 lead in the first, scored twice in the second and added three runs in the third. They closed out the win with one run each in the fourth and fifth innings and three in the sixth.

Kresser topped DMACC in RBIs with four, freshman Tomas Lee of Minnetonka, Minn., drove in three runs and Stallman and Ziegler drove in two runs apiece. Extra-base hits included a home run by Stallman, a triple by Zeigler and doubles from Cummins, Kresser and freshman Jaicee Foster of Oneida, Wis.

Sophomore Cooper Smith of Johnston threw all seven innings and ran his record to 3-0 with the win. He allowed two hits, struck out four and walked one.

The DMACC baseball team will play North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) April 2 and 3 at Clarion. The two teams will play a doubleheader on April 2 and a single game on April 3. NIACC is 5-16 overall and 1-3 in the ICCAC.
