DMACC baseball team drops 10-9 decision to Kirkwood

The DMACC baseball team fell to 13-10 overall and 2-3 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a 10-9 loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) March 27 at Cedar Rapids.

 

The Bears had leads of 3-2 after the first inning, 5-4 after two innings, 7-4 after four innings and 7-5 after six innings before a four-rally in the bottom of the seventh gave KCC a 10-7 advantage. DMACC closed to within 10-9 with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth.

 

Sophomore Reed Stallman of Alburnett paced DMACC's15-hit attack with four hits, including two home runs, and drove in six runs. Sophomore Brodie Kresser of Jesup and freshman Kannon Coakley of Maquoketa had three hits apiece and sophomore Gage Franck of Marion and freshman Mitchell Cummins of Chanhassen, Minn., came away with two hits apiece. Kresser and Franck joined Stallman in extra-base hits with one double apiece and Kresser and Coakley each drove in one run.

 

DMACC used six pitchers in the game. Sophomore Drew Scherbenske of Rapid City, S.D. was the starter and pitched one inning. He allowed two runs on three hits and struck out two batters. Freshman Kaleb Gengler of Sioux City gave up one run on two hits and walked three batters without begin credited with any innings pitched and freshman Jai Jensen of Clinton went three and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk. Freshman Eli Lehrman of Anamosa went an inning and a third and suffered the loss in his first decision of the season. Lehrman allowed three runs on two hits, struck out two and walked one. Freshman Zach Hoehn of Waseca, Minn., pitched one inning and gave up one run on one hit with one strikeout and freshman Camden Kaufman of Waukee went one inning, allowing two hits and striking out two batters.

 

The DMACC baseball team will face Marshalltown Community College (MCC) in a doubleheader today at Marshalltown. MCC is 4-11 overall and 1-3 in the ICCAC
