DMACC baseball team wins three of four games on Oklahoma trip
  • DMACC tops Northern Oklahoma and Seminole State on Feb. 25
  • Bears split games with Northern Oklahoma and Barton CC on Feb. 26
  • Four-game series against Butler Community College coming up

 

The DMACC baseball team traveled to Enid, Okla., for baseball games on February 24 and 25 and came home with three victories in the four games the Bears played.

 

DMACC opened against Northern Oklahoma College-Enid (NOCE) on Feb. 24 and picked up a 3-1 win. The Bears followed that win with a 9-8 victory against Okla.) State College (SOSC) in their second game on Feb. 24. On Feb. 25, DMACC defeated NOCE for the second straight day, 4-3, and the dropped a 7-2 decision to Barton Community College (BCC).

 

The Bears returned home with a 7-5 record.

 

Freshman Reed Stallman of Alburnett had two hits, including a home run, and drove in a pair of runs and sophomore Joe Husak of Cambridge threw a one-hitter in DMACC's win over NOCE on Feb. 24. The Bears trailed 1-0 after two innings but gained a 1-1 tie with a run in the top of the third. They closed out the win with single runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings. Freshman Dillon Kuehl of Urbandale also homered in the win.

 

Husak improved to 3-0 with the win. He struck out three and did not issue a walk.

 

Freshman Jaylen Ziegler of Urbandale had two hits and Stallman and sophomore Brodie Kresser of Jesup each doubled as DMACC outlasted SOSC in the second game on Feb. 25. The Bears led 3-1 after two innings and 4-3 after three innings before scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 7-2 lead. SOSC made it a 7-5 game with two runs in the top of the fifth but DMACC responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning for a 9-5 lead. SOSC closed out the scoring with three runs in the top of the sixth.

 

Stallman and sophomores Gage Franck of Marion and Mitchell Cummins of Chanhassen, Minn., drove in one run apiece as did Ziegler and freshman Camden Kaufman of Waukee.

 

Freshman JC Dermody of Council Bluffs pitched the first four innings for the Bears and improved to 2-1 with the win. He allowed three runs on four hits, struck out three and walked four. Freshman Vinny Mauro of Norwalk worked one inning, allowing two runs on two hits and walking one batter and freshman Chance Key of Waverly went two innings, giving up three runs on two hits. He struck out one and walked two.

 

Kresser had four hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in two runs in DMACC's 4-3 win over NOCE on Feb. 25. Stallman also drove in a run and Franck recorded a double.

 

Sophomore Cooper Smith of Johnston threw the first two and two-thirds innings and ran his record to 2-0 with the win. He allowed two runs on three hits and walked one batter. Freshman Thomas Leiden of Omaha, Neb., pitched three and a third innings of hitless baseball. He struck out seven and walked one. Freshman Jai Jensen of Clinton went two-thirds of an inning, giving up one run on three hits and striking out one batter and freshman Kaleb Gengler of Sioux City got the save by striking out the only batter he faced.

 

DMACC was limited to just three hits and the Bears got one of their two runs on a solo home run by Kaufman in the loss to BCC. DMACC scored single runs in the second and fifth innings. BCC tallied three runs in the first, one in the third, two in the fifth and one in the sixth in getting the win.

 

Freshman Drew Scherbenske of Rapid City, S.D., started for DMACC and went just one inning, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out three batters. Only one of the runs allowed by Scherbenske was earned. Freshman Ty Madison of Omaha, Neb., went two innings and allowed one run with one strikeout and one walk. Freshman Daniel Lester of Bellevue, Neb., threw an inning and a third, allowing two runs on three hits with one strikeout and sophomore Zach Hoehn of Waseca, Minn., gave up a run on three hits with three strikeouts and a walk in an inning and two-thirds. Freshman Alex Berends of Story City threw the final inning, allowing one hit and strikeout out one batter.

 

The DMACC baseball team will play a four-game series against Butler Community College (BCC) March 3 and 4 at El Dorado, Kan.
