DMACC baseball team runs winning streak to nine games with 9-8 decision against MCC

 

Freshman Brodie Kresser of Jesup drove in three runs with a double, a single and a home run to lead the DMACC baseball team to a 9-8 win over Marshalltown Community College (MCC) March 29 at Marshalltown.

 

Freshman Reed Stallman of Alburnett and Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Tre Mungin of Omaha, Neb., also homered as the Bears improved to 17-7 overall and 5-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with their ninth straight victory.

 

DMACC never trailed after taking a 3-1 lead in the third inning. The Bears led 5-3 after four innings, 6-3 after six innings and 7-6 after six innings. Both teams scored two runs in the eighth inning.

 

Kresser's three hits paced the Bears at the plate. He drove in a run with a double in the third, hit a solo home run to lead off the seventh and singled in a run in the eighth. Freshman Reed Stallman of Alburnett, Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jackson Fisher of Chariton and freshmen Gage Franck of Marion and Cy Patterson of Council Bluffs also had two hits apiece in the win. Stallman had a triple and Patterson homered. Franck had two RBIs and Fisher, Patterson and Mungin drove in one run apiece.

 

CoFR Jackson Stewart of Urbandale pitched the first six innings for DMACC and improved to 2-2 with the win. He allowed three runs on five hits, struck out 10 and walked one. CoFR Greg Ryun of Victoria, Minn., allowed three runs on three hits in a third of an inning and freshman Dale Stout of Waukee allowed two runs on one hit, struck out two and walked one in an inning and a third. CoFR Jake Norris of North Liberty struck out two and walked two in one inning and freshman Drew Scherbenske of Rapid City, S.D. struck out the only batter he faced to earn his first save of the season.

 

The DMACC baseball team will face Kirkwood Community College (KCC) in a three-game series April 2 and 3 at the DMACC baseball diamond. The two teams will play a doubleheader on April 2 beginning at 1 p.m. and will play a single game on April 3, also beginning at 1 p.m. KCC is 17-6 overall and 1-2 in the ICCAC. The Eagles are ranked fifth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll.
