DMACC baseball team uses four run first inning to top ILCC, 7-0

The DMACC baseball team extended its winning streak to eight games with a 7-0 decision against Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) March 28 at the DMACC baseball diamond.

 

The win was the 16th of the season against seven losses for the Bears and improved their Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) record to 4-0.

DMACC took a 4-0 lead in the first inning behind six walks from ILCC starter Travis Galleberg. Galleberg issued walks to the first four batters he faced, sophomore Jake Brill of Maple, Wis., freshman Brodie Kresser of Jesup, Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jackson Fisher of Chariton and freshman Cael Boever of Sioux City with Brill scoring on Boever's walk. Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Nick Ripa of Papillion, Neb., then scored Kresser with a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 DMACC lead. CoFR Bret Berg of West Des Moines reached on an error to load the bases and Fisher scored on a base on balls to freshman Cy Patterson of Council Bluffs with Boever came home on a walk to freshman Gage Franck of Marion.

 

The Bears padded their lead with single runs in the third, sixth and seventh innings. Ripa walked and later scored on a base hit by Patterson in the third, Brill tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kresser in the sixth and Berg hit a solo home run in the seventh.

 

CoSO Bret Price of Boone pitched the first five innings and improved to 2-1 with the win. He allowed six hits and struck out six. Freshman Cooper Smith of Johnston pitched one scoreless inning and CoFR Jarrett Novak of Omaha, Neb., gave up one hit, walked one and struck out one in one inning on the mound. Freshmen Dale Stout of Waukee and Luke Fordyce of Waterloo also went one inning apiece. Stout struck out one batter and Fordyce gave up three hits and walked one batter.

 

The DMACC baseball team will play Marshalltown Community College (MCC) today at Marshalltown. MCC is 5-13 overall and 2-3 in the ICCAC.
