Michael Michalak

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) baseball team saw its season come to a close following an 8-0 loss to Southeastern Community College (SECC) in an elimination game in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Baseball Tournament May 13 at Waterloo.

The Bears were limited to just four hits in the loss, singles by sophomores Luke Fegen of West Des Moines, Sean Noel of Stillwater, Minn., and Nick Moffitt of West Des Moines and freshman Noah Heitshusen of Williamsburg.

SECC, which advanced to the Region XI championship game where the Blackhawks lost to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC), took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the third and closed out the win with a run in the fourth, a run in the fifth and two runs in the seventh, when the game was called because of the mercy rule.

Freshman T.J. Fetters of Pleasant Hill pitched the first four innings for DMACC and suffered his third loss of the season against two victories. Fetters allowed five runs on six hits and walked four batters. Freshman John Werner of Burlington threw two and a third innings, allowing three runs on five hits.

The DMACC baseball team closed the season with a 29-27 record, including a 14-10 record in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). The Bears, who took three of four games against SECC during the regular season, finished fifth in league play.
