The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) have named DMACC’s Kaden Tate Athlete of the Week for Division II Men’s Basketball for the week of January 26 to Feb. 1.
Tate, a sophomore from Pearland, Texas, is the first member of the DMACC men’s basketball team to be honored by the NJCAA this season and he is being honored by the ICCAC for the first time this season. He is one of three members of the DMACC men’s basketball team to be honored by the ICCAC for the 2025-26 school year. Freshman Kiki Deng of Des Moines has been honored twice, the week of Jan. 12 to 18 and the week of Nov. 24 to 30. Sophomore Rylan Smith of Lincoln, Neb., was honored the week of Dec. 15 to 21 and freshman Hunter Gawron of Skokie, Ill., was honored the week of Dec. 8 to 14.
Tate shot 81 percent from the field, scored 41 points and grabbed 29 rebounds as the Bears picked up a pair of victories during the week. He had double-doubles in both games.
Tate tallied 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in an 87-78 win over Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC) Jan. 28 at Columbus, Neb., and came away with 21 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots in a 75-54 win over Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) Jan. 31 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
Tate made nine of 11 field goal attempts and was 2-of-3 from the free throw line in the win over CCC. He was 8-of-10 from the field and 5-of-6 at the free throw line in the win over ICCC.
The ICCC matchup featured a pair of ranked teams as DMACC is ranked second in the Division II poll from the NJCAA and ICCC came into the game ranked tenth.
Tate has scored 216 points and is averaging 9.4 points and 8.1 rebounds a game. He is shooting 68 percent from the field with 85 field goals from 126 attempts. Tate is just one of 10 from three-point range and has made 45 of 91 free throw attempts.
Tate’s season also includes 187 rebounds, 43 assists, 40 steals and 52 blocked shots. He leads the ICCAC in field goal percentage and is fourth in rebounds per game.
