DMACC's Courtney Donahue named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Donahue pitched the Bears to wins over Allen County CC, Neosho County CC and Fort Scott CC during the week
  • Donahue allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out 50 batters in the three games
  • Donahue is 8-1 with an 0.90 earned run average this season

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Courtney Donahue the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball for the week of March 11 to 17.

 

Donahue, a sophomore from Marshfield, Wis., has been honored by the conference for the third consecutive week and the fourth time this season. She is one of two members of the DMACC softball team to earn the honor.

 

Donahue was also honored the week of March 4 to 10, Feb. 26 to March 3 and Feb. 12 to 18. Hilary Wilson, a freshman from Solon, was honored for her hitting the week of Feb. 12 to 18.

 

Donahue pitched the Bears to wins over Allen County Community College (ACCC), Neosho County Community College (NCCC) and Fort Scott Community College (FSCC) during the week.

 

Donahue allowed two hits, walked two batters and struck out 18 in a 5-0 win over ACCC March 14 at Iola, Kan. She allowed one hit and struck out 17 in a 3-0 win over NCCC on March 15 at Chanute, Kan., and surrendered four runs on four hits with two walks and 15 strikeouts in an 8-4 win over FSCC March 16 at Fort Scott, Kan.

For the week, Donahue, who is 8-1 with an 0.90 earned run average this season, gave up four runs on seven hits with two walks and 50 strikeouts.

 

Donahue has pitched 62 innings this season, allowing 10 runs, eight earned runs, on 22 hits. She has struck out 120 batters and walked 12 and is averaging 13.55 strikeouts per seven innings. She leads the ICCAC in wins, earned run average and strikeouts and is ranked third nationally in strikeouts.

 

The DMACC softball team, 16-4 with a 11-game winning streak, is ranked 11th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll. The Bears face Southeastern Community College (SECC) in a doubleheader today at West Burlington
