DMACC's Courtney Donahue named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Donahue allowed one run on three hits in a 2-1 win over Iowa Western CC
  • Donahue is 5-1 with an 0.68 earned run average this season
  • Donahue has beaten four nationally ranked teams

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Courtney Donahue the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball (pitching) for the week of March 4 to 10.

 

The honor is the third this season for Donahue and she is one of two members of the  DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season. She was also honored the week of Feb. 26 to March 3 and the week of Feb. 12 to 18. Freshman Hilary Wilson of Solon was honored the week of Feb. 12 to 18.

 

Donahue, a sophomore from Marshfield, Wis., pitched just one game during the week, defeating Iowa Western Community College (IWCC), 2-1, March 10 at Council Bluffs. She pitched all seven innings, allowing one run on two hits with 12 strikeouts and one walk.

 

The win was Donahue's fifth of the season against one loss and four of those wins have come against teams ranked in Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

 

Donahue defeated then 13th-ranked Spoon River Community College (SRCC), 2-1, on Feb. 16 and handed then 12th-ranked Rock Valley Community College (RVCC) an 8-0 defeat on Feb. 17. She was a 5-1 winner over then 14th-ranked Northeast Mississippi Community College (NEMCC) on March 2 and defeated sixth-ranked Jones College (JC) on March 3. Donahue's lone loss came against eight-ranked Northwest Mississippi Community College (NWMCC), 3-0, on Feb. 29.

 

DMACC, 10-4, is ranked 12th in the NJCAA Division II poll.

 

In addition to her 5-1 record, Donahue has an 0.68 earned run average. She has pitched 41 innings and allowed six runs, four earned runs, on 15 hits. Donahue has struck out 70 batters and walked eight. She is averaging 11.95 strikeouts per seven innings.

 

Donahue leads the ICCAC in earned run average and strikeouts and is second in wins.

 

The DMACC softball team is playing six games in Kansas today through March 16. The Bears will play a doubleheader against Allen County Community College (ACCC) today at Iola, Kan., and will face Neosho County Community College (NCCC) in a pair of games March 15 at Chanute, Kan. The road trip will conclude with two games against Fort Scott Community College (FSCC) on March 16 at Fort Scott, Kan.
