DMACC's Delaney Kelley named to all-tournament softball team

Three members of the DMACC softball team have garnered postseason honors based on their performances in the Bears' run to a seventh consecutive appearance in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Softball Championship.

 

Freshman Delaney Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., was named to the national championship all-tournament team and to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NJCAA Division II Midwest Region First Team.

 

Freshmen Sophie Maras of Johnston and Abby Husak of Polk City joined Kelley on the NFCA NJCAA Division II Midwest Region First Team.

 

Kelley batted .385 during DMACC's run in the NJCAA DII Softball Championship, collecting five hits in 13 at-bats. Her hits included a double and a triple. She drove in four runs and scored three runs as the Bears finished among the top six teams in the country.

 

For the season, Kelley batted .410 with a .439 on-base percentage and a .624 slugging percentage. She had 84 hits in 205 at-bats, including 16 doubles, two triples and eight home runs. Kelley drove in 83 runs, becoming one of three players on the roster with more than 80 runs batted in, and scored 38 runs. Defensively, Kelley, who played first base, compiled a .986 fielding percentage with 337 putouts 10 assists and five errors in 352 total chances. She participated in 15 double plays.

 

Maras led the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) in hitting with a .515 average. She also topped the league in home runs with 29 and stolen bases with 55 and finished second in RBIs with 92. Maras also led NJCAA Division II in home runs, tied for first in RBIs and finished second in stolen bases.

 

Maras' .515 batting average came on 117 hits in 227 at-bats. Her hits included 18 doubles and six triples to go with the 29 home runs. She scored 117 runs her 55 stolen bases came from 58 attempts. She also compiled a .591 on-base percentage and a 1.031 slugging percentage. Maras, a shortstop, finished with a .900 fielding percentage with 80 putouts, 108 assists and 21 errors from 209 total chances. She participated in 11 double plays.

 

Husak, an outfielder, batted .507 with a .570 on-base percentage and a .536 slugging percentage. She had 70 hits in 138 at-bats, including four doubles. Husak scored 66 runs, drove in 17 runs and stole 41 bases in 45 attempt. Defensively, Husak finished the season with a .853 fielding percentage. She had 28 putouts, one assists and five errors in 34 total chances.

 

The DMACC softball team ended the season at 52-14 and made their seventh consecutive appearance in the NJCAA Division II Softball Championship.
