DMACC's Alexis Lander named ICCAC Pitcher of the Week for Division II Softball
  • Lander is the sixth DMACC softball player to be honored by the ICCAC
  • Lander's one-hitter helped the Bears defeat MCC in the North Plains District B championship game
  • Lander improved to 17-4 with the win

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Alexis Lander the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II softball (pitching) for the week of May 10 to 16.

 

This marks the third time this season Lander has been honored by the conference. She was also honored the week of March 29 to April 4 and Feb. 15 to 21. And she is the sixth member of the DMACC softball team to be honored this season.

 

Freshman Sophie Maras of Johnston was honored the weeks of April 12-18, March 29 to April 4, Feb. 22 to 28 and Feb. 15 to 21. Freshman Sami Miller of Mason City was honored for the week of May 10 to 16. Freshman Kaylie Reynolds of Muscatine was honored the week of May 3 to 9 and freshman Delaney Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., was honored the week of April 26 to May 2. Freshman pitcher Abby Flanagan of Coggon was honored the week of April 26 to May 2.

 

Lander threw a one-hitter as DMACC defeated Miles Community College (MCC) in the second game of a best-of-three series May 13 at the DMACC softball diamond to win the North Plains District B championship and advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Softball Championship. Lander struck out three batters and did not issue a base on balls as she improved to 17-4 for the season.

 

In addition to being 17-4, Lander has an earned run average of 2.12 and has thrown 14 complete games. She has thrown 132 innings, allowing 65 runs (40 earned runs) on 110 hits. She has struck out 99 batters and walked 38. Lander is averaging 5.25 strikeouts per seven innings pitched.

 

The NJCAA Division II Softball Championship will be held May 25 to 29 at Oxford, Ala. Tournament seedings and pairings will be announced when they become available.
