DMACC's Sami Miller named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball
  • Miller had four hits and five RBIs as the Bears swept MCC in the North Plains District B tournament
  • Miller accounted for all four runs as DMACC took the first game, 4-2
  • Miller had one hit, scored one run and drove in a run in DMACC's 11-0 win in the second game

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Sami Miller the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II softball for the week of May to 10 16.

 

Miller, a freshman from Mason City, is the sixth member of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season. Freshman Sophie Maras of Johnston was honored the weeks of April 12-18, March 29 to April 4, Feb. 22 to 28 and Feb. 15 to 21. Freshman Kaylie Reynolds of Muscatine was honored the week of May 3 to 9 and freshman Delaney Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., was honored the week of April 26 to May 2. Freshman pitchers Alexis Lander of Onawa and Abby Flanagan of Coggon have also been honored for their pitching achievements, Lander the weeks of May 10 to 16, March 29 to April 4 and Feb. 15 to 21. Flanagan was honored the week of April 26 to May 2.

 

Miller went 4-for-5 with two home runs and five runs batted in as DMACC swept two games from Miles Community College (MCC) May 13 at the DMACC softball diamond to win the North Plains District B championship and advance to the NJCAA Division II Softball Championship.

 

Miller was 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs as DMACC took the opener against MCC, 4-2. She was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI in DMACC's 11-0 win in the second game.

 

Miller is batting .339 with a .432 on-base percentage and a .697 slugging percentage this season. She has 56 hits in 165 at-bats, including 12 doubles, four triples and 13 home runs. Miller has scored 47 runs, driven in 54 runs and stolen 14 bases in 16 attempts.

 

The DMACC softball team will play in the NJCAA Division II Softball Championship May 25 to 29 at Oxford, Ala. Tournament seedings and pairings will be announced when they become available.
