DMACC's Kaylie Reynolds named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II softball
  • Reynolds helped the Bears to the Region XI-A championship with a game-tying home run
  • She belted four home runs during the week
  • Reynolds scored eight runs in DMACC's four wins during the week

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Kaylie Reynolds the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II softball for the week of May 3 to 9.

 

Reynolds, a freshman from Muscatine, is the fifth member of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season. Freshman Delaney Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., was honored the week of April 26 to May 2; freshman Sophie Maras of Johnston was honored four times, the week of April 12 to 18, the week of March 29 to April 4, the week of Feb. 22 to 28 and the week of Feb. 15 to 21. Freshmen pitchers Abby Flanagan of Coggon and Alexis Lander of Onawa were honored for their pitching performances the week of April 26 to May 2 and March 29 to April 4 respectively. Lander was also honored the week of Feb. 15 to 21.

 

Reynolds was 8-for-16 with a double and two home runs during the week. She scored eight runs and drove in eight runs.

 

Reynolds was 4-for-4 with a double and two home runs, three runs scored and four RBIs as the Bears handed Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) a 15-0 loss in first game of a doubleheader May 5 at Norfolk, Neb. She had one hit in three at-bats, including a home run, scored two runs and drove in three as DMACC closed out the regular season with a 11-2 win over NECC in the second game on May 5.

 

DMACC faced Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in the double-elimination National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI-A tournament and Reynolds helped the Bears sweep the Lakers and claim their fourth consecutive Region XI-A championship. She was 1-for-4 with one run scored in a 7-1 win in a winner's bracket game on May 8 and was 2-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored in a 4-3 win in the championship game on May 9. The home run came in the bottom of the seventh inning, got DMACC a 3-3 tie and sent the game into extra innings. DMACC ultimately won on as freshman Sami Miller of Mason City hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the tenth.

 

Reynolds is hitting .410 with a .510 on-base percentage and a .965 slugging percentage. She has 71 hits in 174 at-bats, including 23 doubles, two triples and 23 home runs. She has scored 64 runs and driven in 82 runs. Reynolds is third in the ICCAC in home runs and fifth in runs batted in.

 

The DMACC softball team, 47-12 and ranked fourth in the NJCAA Division II poll, faces Miles Community College (MCC) in the North Plains District double-elimination tournament today at the DMACC softball diamond. The two teams will play a doubleheader today and will play a third game, if necessary, May 14. The North Plains District winner advances to the 2021 NJCAA Division II Softball Championship May 25 to 29 at Oxford, Ala.
