DMACC's Abby Flanagan named ICCAC Pitcher of the Week for Division II Softball

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Abby Flanagan the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball (pitching) for the week of April 26 to May 4.

 

Flanagan, a freshman from Coggon, is the fourth member of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season. Freshman Sophie Maras of Johnson has been recognized four times, the week of Feb. 15 to 21; the week of Feb. 22 to 28; the week of March 29 to April 4; and the week of April 12 to 18. Freshman Alexis Lander of Onawa, a pitcher, has been recognized twice, the week of Feb 15 to 21 and the week of March 29 to April 4. Freshman Delaney Kelley has been honored for the week of April 26 to May 4.

 

Flanagan recorded a pair of victories in helping the Bears to a four-game sweep of Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) during the week. She went seven innings, allowing three runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts and a walk in a 7-3 victory in the first game of a doubleheader on April 27 and closed out the series with a 14-1 win in the second game of a doubleheader on April 28. She allowed one run on three hits, struck out five and walked one. None of the runs allowed by Flanagan during the series were earned.

 

Flanagan is 16-4 with a 2.82 earned run average this season and has won her last 11 games. She has pitched 116.2 innings, allowing 77 runs on 122 hits. She has struck out 131 batters and walked 27 and is averaging 7.86 strikeouts per seven innings pitched. Flanagan ranks fifth in the ICCAC in wins and earned run average.

 

The DMACC softball team, 43-12 overall and 33-5 in the ICCAC and ranked fifth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, closes out the regular season today with a doubleheader against Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) at Norfolk, Neb. NECC is 10-44 overall and 4-38 in the ICCAC. DMACC defeated the Hawks by scores of 16-0 and 14-1 when the two teams played April 27 at Norfolk, Neb.
