DMACC's Delaney Kelley named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball
  • Kelley is the fourth DMACC softball player to be honored by the ICCAC
  • Freshmen Sophie Maras of Johnston, Alexis Lander of Onawa and Abby Flanagan of Coggon have also been honored
  • Kelley batted .769 in leading the Bears to a four-game sweep of Iowa Lakes Community College

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC softball player Delaney Kelley the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II softball for the week of April 26 to May 2.

 

Kelley, a freshman from Rock Island, Ill., is the fourth member of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season. Freshman Sophie Maras of Johnson has been recognized four times, the week of Feb. 15 to 21; the week of Feb. 22 to 28; the week of March 29 to April 4; and the week of April 12 to 18. Freshman Alexis Lander of Onawa, a pitcher, has been recognized twice, the week of Feb 15 to 21 and the week of March 29 to April 4. Freshman Abby Flanagan has been honored for her pitching achievements the week of April 26 to May 2.

 

Kelly batted .769 in leading DMACC to a four-game sweep of Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) during the week, collecting 10 hits in 13 at-bats with 14 runs batted in and four runs scored. Her hits included two doubles and a home run.

 

Kelley was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and one run scored in a 7-3 win on April 27 and went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in a 21-1 win, also on April 27. She went 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs in a 16-0 win on April 28 and went 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs and one run scored in a 14-1 win, also on April 28.

 

Kelley batted .889 with runners in scoring position during the series.

 

For the season, Kelley is batting .421 with a .449 on-base percentage and a .655 slugging percentage. She has 72 hits in 171 at-bats, including 14 doubles, a triple and eight home runs. She has scored 32 runs and has driven in 72 runs to join Maras and freshman Kaylie Reynolds of Muscatine with more than 70 RBIs this season. Maras leads the team with 83 and Reynolds has 74.

 

The DMACC softball team, 43-12 overall and 33-5 in the ICCAC and ranked fifth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, closes out the regular season today with a doubleheader against Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) at Norfolk, Neb. NECC is 10-44 overall and 4-38 in the ICCAC. DMACC defeated the Hawks by scores of 16-0 and 14-1 when the two teams played April 27 at Norfolk, Neb.
