DMACC softball team rolls past NECC, 16-0, 14-1
  • DMACC improves to 43-12 overall and 33-5 in the ICCAC
  • Freshmen pitchers Alexis Lander of Onawa and Abby Flanagan of Coggon throw back-to-back three hitters
  • Freshmen Kaylie Reynolds of Muscatine and Delaney Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., hit home runs to lead Bears to the win

 

Freshmen pitchers Alexis Lander of Onawa and Abby Flanagan of Coggon threw back-to-back three-hitters as the DMACC softball team swept a doubleheader from Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) April 28 at the DMACC softball diamond.

 

The Bears outscored the Hawks 30-1 in the two games to improve to 43-12 overall and 33-5 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Lander went five innings in her three hitter, striking out two and walking three as DMACC came away with a 16-0 win. Flanagan also pitched just five innings in a 14-1 win. She struck out five and walked one.

 

Freshman Kaylie Reynolds of Muscatine hit a pair of home runs and drove in five runs in the Bears' win in the opener. DMACC led 2-0 after the first inning and put the game out of reach with 13 runs in the second inning and one in the fourth.

 

Freshman Delaney Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., had three hits and drove in four runs and freshmen Zoey Wright of Ottumwa and Jocelyn Long of Overland Park, Kan., had two hits apiece. Freshman Sophie Maras of Johnston and Jada Collins of Des Moines each doubled in the win and Wright and freshman Haley Forret of Van Meter drove in two runs apiece.

 

The Bears used a 13-run rally in the first inning and added another run in the second to come away with the win in the second game.

 

Freshman Abby Husak of Polk City paced the Bears at the plate with three singles and Kelley, freshman Sami Miller of Mason City and freshman Tricia Sporaa of Madrid had two hits apiece. Kelley homered and drove in four runs and Miller had a double and two RBIs. Freshman Kamrin Wells of Topeka, Kan., also drove in two runs for the Bears.

 

The DMACC softball team's four-game series with Indian Hills Community College (IHCC), scheduled for May 1 and 2 at the DMACC softball diamond has been postponed and will not be played. The Bears will close out the regular season against NECC May 5 at Norfolk, Neb.
