DMACC softball team splits two games against SWCC
  • DMACC takes the opener, 12-8, and SWCC wins the nightcap, 15-8

Freshman Delaney Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., had two hits in each game and drove in a total of seven runs as the DMACC softball team split a doubleheader with Southwestern Community College (SWCC) April 21 at the DMACC softball diamond.

 

The split gives the Bears a 35-12 record overall and a 25-5 mark in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Kelley singled and doubled and drove in three runs in DMACC's 12-8 win in the first game. She singled and homered and drove in four runs as the Bears dropped the second game, 15-8.

 

DMACC's win in the first game saw the Bears take a 3-1 lead in the first inning and then fall behind 6-3 as SWCC tallied five runs in the top of the second. DMACC responded with six runs in the bottom of the third and then added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. SWCC scored one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings.

 

Freshmen Sophie Maras of Johnston, Abby Husak of Polk City and Tricia Sporaa of Madrid paced the Bears with three hits apiece. Maras and Sporaa each hit a double and a triple, freshman Kaylie Reynolds of Muscatine tripled and freshman Kamrin Wells of Topeka, Kan., homered. Maras and Sporaa drove in two runs apiece.

 

Freshman Abby Flanagan of Coggon pitched the first six innings, allowing eight runs on 10 hits. She struck out six and walked two. Freshman Alexis Lander of Onawa threw one inning and struck out three of the four batters she faced.

 

DMACC let a 7-3 lead slip away in losing the second game. The Bears led 4-3 after the first inning and scored three runs in the bottom of the second to go up 7-3. SWCC scored two runs in the third and two in the four to tie the game but DMACC put a run on the board in the bottom of the fourth for an 8-7 lead. SWCC then pulled away with five runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.

 

Husak paced the Bears' eight-hit attack with three singles. Reynolds collected two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs.

 

Freshman Ellie Jacobson of Humboldt pitched the first five innings for DMACC, allowing eight runs on seven hits. She struck out one and walked one. Lander went one inning and allowed four runs on four hits with a pair of strikeouts and freshman Haley Forret of Van Meter pitched one inning, allowing three runs on three hits. She struck out one batter and walked one.

 

The DMACC softball team will face Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) in doubleheaders April 24 and 25 at Council Bluffs. The Reivers are 32-14 overall and 18-13 in the ICCAC.
