DMACC's Alexis Lander named ICCAC Pitcher of the Week for Division II softball
  • Lander, a freshman from Onawa, is the second DMACC softball player to be honored by the conference this season

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC softball player Alexis Lander the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II softball for the week of March 29 to April 4. Lander, a freshman from Onawa, also received the honor for the week of Feb. 15 to 21.

 

Lander is the second member of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference. Freshman Sophie Maras of Johnston has been honored three times, the week of Feb. 15 to 21, the week of Feb. 22 to 28 and the week of March 29 to April 4.

 

Lander appeared in three games during the week, earning a save in a win against North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) and picking up two victories in a four-game series against Kirkwood Community College (KCC). Lander pitched 13 and a third innings, striking out 18 batters and allowing four earned runs.

 

Lander got her save after working an inning and a third against NIACC, striking out two batters and walking one. She went five innings in a 21-1 win against KCC, allowing one run on three hits, striking out three batters and walking one batter. Lander also notched another win against the Eagles, going seven innings in a 6-4 victory by the Bears. She allowed four runs on six hits, struck out 13 and walked three.

 

Lander is 9-2 this season with a 2.49 earned run average, one save and eight complete games. She has thrown 73 innings and given up 36 runs, 26 earned runs, on 59 hits. She has struck out 51 batters and walked 21. Lander is averaging 4.89 strikeouts per seven innings.

 

Lander is third in the ICCAC in earned run average and is tied for fourth in wins.

 

The DMACC softball team, 19-10 overall and 9-3 in the ICCAC, is ranked sixth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll. The Bears play a doubleheader against Marshalltown Community April 9 at the DMACC softball diamond and play doubleheaders against Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) April 10 and 11 at Fort Dodge.
