DMACC softball team sweeps doubleheader from NIACC

The DMACC softball team ran its record to 14-9 by sweeping a doubleheader from North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) March 28 at the DMACC softball diamond. The Bears took the opener, 4-1, and won the nightcap, 10-2.

 

Freshman Ellie Jacobson of Humboldt tossed a three-hitter and freshman Kaylie Reynolds of Muscatine hit a three-run home run to lead DMACC in the opener. The Bears scored all four of their runs in the third inning and Jacobson kept the Trojans scoreless until the top of the seventh.

 

DMACC collected just three hits in the win. Freshmen Sophie Maras of Johnston and Kamrin Wells of Topeka, Kan., each singled to go with Reynolds' home run.

 

Jacobson improved to 3-4 with the win. She struck out five and walked one.

 

Freshman Alexis Lander of Onawa scattered four hits and freshman Jocelyn Long of Overland Park, Kan., drove in three runs to lead DMACC in the second game. The Bears trailed 2-1 coming to bat in the bottom of the fifth and scored four runs for a 5-2 lead. They then closed out the win with five runs in the bottom of the fifth.

 

Maras hit her ninth home run of the season in the win. Long and freshman Haley Forret of Van Meter had two hits apiece and Long collected three runs batted in. Wells and Forret each doubled and freshman Delaney Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., and Forret joined Maras with one RBI apiece.

 

Maras and Reynolds share the home run lead in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with nine apiece. Maras leads the conference in RBIs with 31 and Reynolds is tied for fourth with 28.

 

Lander improved to 7-2 with the win. She allowed two runs on four hits, struck out four and walked one.

 

DMACC and NIACC will play a doubleheader today at the DMACC softball diamond. The first game starts at 2 p.m.
