DMACC softball team drops doubleheader to Crowder

 

The DMACC softball team fell to 8-5 for the season following a doubleheader loss to Crowder College (CC) March 3 at Neosho, MO.

 

CC won by scores of 8-0 and 14-6, ending a five-game DMACC winning streak.

 

The Roughriders took the opener behind single runs in each of the first two innings, a three-run rally in the bottom of the third and another three-run rally in the bottom of the fifth when the game was called because of the mercy rule.

 

The Bears, ranked 10th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, were limited to just one hit, a single by freshman Sami Miller of Mason City.

 

Freshman Alexis Lander of Onawa pitched all five innings for DMACC and suffered the loss. She allowed eight runs on nine hits, struck out three and walked three.

 

CC had a 4-0 lead after two innings in the second game and DMACC tied it on a four-run rally in the top of the fourth. The Roughriders responded with seven runs in the bottom of the inning for an 11-4 advantage and closed out the win with three runs in the bottom of the fifth after the Bears made it an 11-6 game with a pair of runs in the top of inning.

 

DMACC had just three hits in the game, a three-run home run by Maras and a double and a home run by Miller. Each drove in three runs.

 

Freshman Abby Flanagan of Coggon pitched the first two and two-thirds innings for DMACC, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits. She struck out one batter. Freshman Ellie Jacobson of Humboldt pitched an inning and a third, allowing one run on three hits and striking out three batters. Freshman Melissa Locke of Wright City, Mo., threw two-thirds of an inning, allowing three runs on two hits. She struck out one batter and walked two.

 

DMACC's six-game road trip continues today with the Bears facing Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in a pair of games at Miami, Okla.
