DMACC's Alexis Lander named ICCAC, NJCAA Pitcher of the Week for Division II softball

  • Lander surrenders just two hits over 10 innings
  • Lander sports a 1.71 earned run average in 16 and a third innings

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Alexis Lander the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II softball (pitching) for the week of February 15 to 21.

 

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has also honored Lander, naming her its Athlete of the Week for Division II softball (pitching) for the week of Feb. 15 to 21.

 

Lander, a freshman from Onawa, pitched in two games during a four-game series Feb. 20 and 21 at Meridian, Miss. She threw five innings in a 10-0 win over Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) on Feb. 20, allowing just one hit and striking out three batters.

 

On Feb. 21, DMACC, then ranked ninth in the NJCAA Division II poll, faced No. 16 East Central Community College (ECCC) and Lander entered the game in the third inning with the Bears trailing 6-3. She again went five innings, allowing one hit and striking out two batters and DMACC clawed back for an 8-6 win.

 

For the season, Lander is 2-1 with a 1.71 earned run average. She has thrown 16 and a third innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits with six strikeouts and four walks. Lander has a 1.000 fielding percentage with two putouts, six assists and no errors in eight total chances.

 

The DMACC softball team will travel to Enid, Okla., for games Feb. 26 and 27. The Bears will play Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa (NOCT), Fort Scott Community College (FSCC) and Northern Oklahoma College-Enid (NOCE) on Feb. 26 and will play Clarendon College (CC) and Highland Community College (HCC) on Feb. 27.
