DMACC's Mia Ruther named NJCAA and ICCAC DII Player of the Week

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) have named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball player Mia Ruther the Division II Player of the Week for the week of May 6 to 12.

 

Ruther, a sophomore from Burlington, is the second DMACC softball player to be honored by the NJCAA this season. Freshman Josie Swafford of Wellston, Okla., was named NJCAA Division II Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 25 to 31.

 

Ruther, who was also honored by the ICCAC for the week of March 25 to 31, is the third DMACC softball player to be honored by the league this season Freshman Maddie Karr of Center Point earned the honor for the weeks of March 4 to 10 and 11 to 17. Freshman Josie Swafford of Wellston, Okla., has been named ICCAC Division II Pitcher of the Week seven times this season.

 

Ruther compiled a .875 batting average while helping the Bears to the NJCAA Region XI-A championship during the week with a victory against Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NENEB) and two wins over Iowa Central Community College (ICCC). She has seven hits in eight at-bats, drove in two runs and scored five runs. Ruther also stole five bases in the three games.

 

Through the NJCAA Region XI-A tournament, Ruther is hitting .600 with a .633 on-base percentage and a .758 slugging percentage. She has 99 hits in 165 at-bats, including 10 doubles, five triples and two home runs. She has driven in 38 runs, scored 78 runs and stolen 41 bases in 42 attempts.

 

Ruther leads the ICCAC in hitting and is third in stolen bases.
