DMACC's Josie Swafford named ICCAC DII Pitcher of the Week

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball player Josie Swafford the ICCAC Division II Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 11 to 17.

 

Swafford, a sophomore from Wellston, Okla., pitched a five-inning shutout in an 18-0 win over Allen County Community College (ACCC) during the week. She scattered four hits, struck out eight and walked one.

 

Swafford is 4-1 with a 1.68 earned run average this season. She has pitched 33 and a third innings, allowing eight runs on 26 hits. She has struck out 42 batters, walked 10 and is averaging 8.82 strikeouts for every seven innings pitched. Swafford, who has pitched four complete games, leads the ICCAC in ERA and is ranked fourth in wins.

 

Swafford has helped her own cause with a .333 batting average. She has collected eight hits in 24 at-bats and her eight hits include one home run. She has driven in eight runs and scored seven runs.

 

The DMACC softball team, ranked fifth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, is 12-3 for the season with a six-game winning streak. The Bears are scheduled to face Johnson County Community College (JCCC) today at Overland Park, Kan.
