DMACC's Molly Jacobsen Named NJCAA and ICCAC Division II Pitcher of the Week

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) have named DMACC softball player Molly Jacobsen the Division II Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 23 to 29.

This is Jacobsen's fifth national pitcher of the week award and the ninth time she has been honored by the conference, including the last seven consecutive weeks.

Jacobsen, a sophomore from Adel, recorded victories against Kirkwood Community College (KCC), Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) and North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) helping the Bears to a six-game sweep, a 40-0 regular season, a 22-0 ICCAC record and a No. 1 national ranking in the NJCAA Division II poll.

She pitched a perfect game in an 8-0 win over fifth-ranked KCC, threw a shutout against ILCC and tossed her seventh no-hitter of the season against NIACC.

Jacobsen finished the regular season at 20-0 with an earned run average of 0.18. She has thrown 116.1 innings, allowing 33 hits and eight runs, three of which are earned. Jacobsen has struck out 223 batters, walked 11 and is averaging 13.42 strikeouts a game.

Jacobsen leads the NJCAA Division II and the ICCAC Division II in strikeouts. She leads the ICCAC and is second nationally in earned run average. She is also second in the ICCAC in wins.

The DMACC softball team opens postseason play as the No. 1 seed in the NJCAA Region XI-A Softball Tournament, which begins May 4 at the DMACC softball diamond. The Bears will face either fourth-seeded ILCC or seventh-seeded Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) in their first game. The double-elimination tournament continues May 5 with the championship game slated for 2 p.m. A second championship game, if necessary, would be played immediately following the first championship game.

The Region XI-A champion will advance to the District H tournament May 10 and 11 at the home of the Region XI-A champion.
