DMACC's Molly Jacobsen Named NJCAA, ICCAC Pitcher of the Week

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) have named Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) softball player Molly Jacobsen the Division II Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 12 to 18.

 

This is the second time Jacobsen, a sophomore from Adel, has been honored by the NJCAA and the third time she has been honored by the ICCAC. She was named Division II Pitcher of the Week for the week of February 12 to 18 by the NJCAA and was named Division II Pitcher of the Week for the weeks of Feb. 12 to 18 and Feb. 26 to March 4 by the ICCAC.

 

Jacobsen helped DMACC to a 7-0 record  and improved to 6-0 during the week, pitching the Bears past Itawamba Community College (ICC), East Mississippi Community College (EMCC) and Southeast (Neb.) Community College (SECC).

 

Against ICC, Jacobsen allowed one run on three hits, struck out nine and walked two, lifting DMACC to a 5-0 win. Jacobsen pitched a 5-0 shutout against EMCC, allowing one hit, striking out 19 and walking one and she was even better in an 8-0 win over SECC, striking out all 15 batters she faced. Jacobsen threw 57 pitches in the win, including 46 strikes.

 

For the season, Jacobsen has thrown 39 innings, allowing five runs, including one earned run, on 17 hits with 78 strikeouts and five walks. Her 0.18 earned run average leads the ICCAC. She is tied for third in the conference in wins and is second in strikeouts. Jacobsen is averaging 14 strikeouts a game.

 

The DMACC softball team will play a doubleheader against Southeastern (Iowa) Community College (SECC) today at West Burlington.
