DMACC men's basketball team tops ILCC in battle of ranked teams

 

Sophomore Mark Bradshaw of Chester, Penn., led four players in double figures with 20 points as the DMACC men's basketball team toppled Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in a battle of ranked teams March 10 at Estherville.

 

DMACC, which improved to 12-2 with its seventh straight victory, is the top-ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll. ILCC came into the game ranked eighth in NJCAA Division II.

 

Sophomores Willie Guy of Cedar Rapids, Christian Haffner of Gresham, Wis., and Ryan Schmitt of Van Meter joined Bradshaw in double figures with 18, 16 and 11 points respectively.

 

DMACC led 32-27 at halftime, then fell behind by as many as three points early in the second half before taking the lead for good at 43-41 on a layup by Guy with 12 minutes, 5 seconds to play. The Bears led by as many as 12 points in the final six minutes.

 

DMACC shot 46 percent, hitting 24 of 52 field goal attempts. The Bears were 7-of-15 from three-point range and 23-of-32 from the free throw line. Haffner, Guy and Bradshaw paced DMACC from beyond the arc. Haffner made three of his five attempts. Guy and Bradshaw were both 2-of-4 from three-point range.

 

Guy grabbed seven rebounds to lead DMACC to a 39-37 advantage on the boards. Schmitt had six rebounds and sophomore Devin Wade-Henderson of Minneapolis, Minn., and freshman Goanar Biliew of Denison had five rebounds apiece. Schmitt led the Bears in assists with four and Guy, Haffner, Bradshaw and sophomore Zach Hobbs of Mesa, Ariz., had two assists apiece. Schmitt recorded seven blocked shots, including five solo blocks, and Haffner and Hobbs led the DMACC in steals with two each.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will face Ellsworth Community College (ECC) March 13 at Iowa Falls. ECC is 1-14 this season, including a 74-62 loss to DMACC Feb. 6 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
