Postseason honors continued for DMACC's Emma Flathers, who November 28 was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II All-American Second Team.

Flathers, a sophomore from Treynor, is the first DMACC volleyball player to be named an All-American since 2020 when Amber Dilsaver received All-American honorable mention.

Flathers postseason honors also include being named to the NJCAA 2023 Division II National Championship All-Tournament team and to the NJCAA Region XI First Team.

Flathers' season totals included 1,425 assists and she finished third in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) in assists per set at 9.76. Her season also included 96 kills, 47 ace serves, 400 digs and 66 blocks, including 52 block assists.

Flathers is third in assists per season at DMACC and second assists per set.

Flathers helped the DMACC volleyball team to its first appearance in the NJCAA 2023 Division II National Championship since 2015. The Bears played in three matches in the tournament and Flathers totaled eight kills, 94 assists, 28 digs and four block assists in those matches. She had five kills, 41 assists and nine digs in a 3-2 win over Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) and finished with one kill, 36 assists, 14 digs and a block assists in a 3-1 loss to Parkland College (PC). Flathers had two kills, 17 assists, five digs and three block assists in a 3-0 loss to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) that eliminated the Bears from the tournament.

The national tournament ended Flathers' collegiate volleyball career. She will receive her two-year degree from DMACC in December and plans to transfer to Iowa State University where she will forego volleyball to concentrate on her academic career.

The DMACC volleyball team finished the 2023 season at 29-12 and a No. 11 ranking in the NJCAA Division II poll. The Bears were 10-1 in the ICCAC and shared the conference championship with ICCC and Kirkwood Community College (KCC), DMACC's first conference title since 2015. The Bears finished second to ICCC in the NJCAA Division II Region XI Volleyball Tournament and qualified for the Division II National Championship for the first time since 2015.
