DMACC's Emma Flather's named to national tournament all-tournament team

DMACC's Emma Flathers was named to the all-tournament team announced at the conclusion of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) 2023 Division II Volleyball National Championship November 15 to 18 at the Alliant Energy Powerhouse Arena in Cedar Rapids.

 

Flathers, a sophomore from Treynor, was named to a setter position and was the only DMACC volleyball player named to the team.

 

The DMACC volleyball team played in three matches and Flathers totaled eight kills, 94 assists, 28 digs and four block assists in those matches. She had five kills, 41 assists and nine digs in a 3-2 win over Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) and finished with one kill, 36 assists, 14 digs and a block assists in a 3-1 loss to Parkland College (PC). Flathers had two kills, 17 assists, five digs and three block assists in a 3-0 loss to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) that eliminated the Bears from the tournament.

 

Flathers' season totals included 1,425 assists and she finished third in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) in assists per set at 9.76. Her season also included 96 kills, 47 ace serves, 400 digs and 66 blocks, including 52 block assists.

Flathers is third in assists per season at DMACC and second assists per set.

 

With Flathers' help, the DMACC volleyball team finished the 2023 season at 29-12 and a No. 11 ranking in the NJCAA Division II poll. The Bears were 10-1 in the ICCAC and shared the conference championship with ICCC and Kirkwood Community College (KCC), DMACC's first conference title since 2015. The Bears finished second to ICCC in the NJCAA Division II Region XI Volleyball Tournament and qualified for the Division II National Championship for the first time since 2015.
